The purpose of a bump test is to evaluate the extent of damage accumulation and functional degradation that may occur when a test specimen is subjected to repetitive mechanical shock environments. It is also used to assess the overall structural integrity of products and components.
This test simulates the repetitive shock conditions that equipment and components may experience during transportation and operational use. Testing can be performed on both unpackaged products and products enclosed in shipping cartons; in the latter case, the carton must remain part of the test setup.
During testing, the specimen is typically secured to a fixture or shock test platform and subjected to repeated half-sine shock pulses. The number of pulses, peak acceleration, and pulse duration are determined according to the applicable testing standards.
